Design Automation Conference 2012

AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) today announced the “Si2 Roundup@DAC:Standards in Action” co-located event at the Design Automation Conference, which will be held June 3-7 at The MosconeCenter in San Francisco, CA. The event will be on Monday, June 4, and will include a celebration of the 10th Anniversary ofOpenAccess. The event will include 4 individual sessions, a complimentary luncheon and an open reception. Attendees canregister for individual sessions or for the entire program.Standards have been proven to reduce cost of operations, drive greater process efficiencies and offer greater opportunities forstart-up companies to infuse fresh technology in the design and manufacturing of IC’s. Si2 standards have been targeted toresolve “pinch-points” in the overall semiconductor supply chain with a steadfast focus on rapid adoption of these standards. This day-long program, consisting of 4 individual events, will showcase activities currently underway with an eye towardsdemonstrating the value of these programs to the program participants and to the overall semiconductor industry. Therefore, this day-long session should entice engineers and technologists working at both current and cutting-edge technology nodesand also managers responsible for driving both design and manufacturing strategy, and related financial and staffing decisions.A featured part of the program will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of OpenAccess. A complimentary luncheon and an afternoonreception will highlight this occasion.

NanGate Design Optimizer™ and Library Creator™ for Advanced 28nm SoC Design Adopted

by Fujitsu Semiconductor

NanGate Solution Improves Fujitsu Semiconductor’s IP Development Productivity and SoC Design Performance.

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA – October 18th, 2011. NanGate, the leading supplier of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) solution for digital cell library development and design optimization, today announced that Fujitsu Semiconductor Limited has adopted NanGate’s Library Creator, a comprehensive tool set that enables efficient creation and validation of digital cells, and NanGate Design Optimizer, an IC analysis and post-route optimization tool, into its advanced 28nm design environment.

With Fujitsu Semiconductor’s strong focus on accelerating 28nm design projects and their need to support process variants, Fujitsu Semiconductor has concluded a successful evaluation of NanGate’s solution. “Fujitsu Semiconductor’s business growth depends on our continuous improvement in design development quality and efficiency. We are impressed with the effectiveness of NanGate’s solution to automate generation of large sets of complex cells, and the ability to improve the quality of design performance,” said Hiroshi Ikeda, Director of System LSI Technology & Product Department, Technology Development Division, IP & Technology Development and Manufacturing Unit of Fujitsu Semiconductor Limited. “We expect to leverage these strengths for our critical design development with various advanced process technologies.”

NanGate Releases new 45nm Open Cell Library Through Si2

Austin, TX—September 13, 2011. Silicon Integration Initiative (Si2) announced today the availability of the new NanGate open source 45nm standard-cell library, which is available for download from the Si2 website. The new release of the library has significant new features, including: a new set of low power cells, support for VITAL (VHDL Initiative Towards ASIC Libraries) views, support for Cadence Virtuoso database, improved sizing of all cells for better compatibility with place and route tools, and a new IP release directory structure.

The NanGate Open Cell Library is a generic open-source, standard-cell library provided for the purposes of research, testing, and exploring EDA flows. This library is purposely non-manufacturable. NanGate has developed and donated this library to Si2 for open use. The library is intended to aid university research by developing circuits in cutting edge technologies that can be used to evaluate new algorithms and design flows, and organizations such as Si2 in developing standards and design flows that can be used to evaluate the new standards. The library was generated using NanGate’s Library Creator™ and the 45nm FreePDK Base Kit from North Carolina State University and characterized with NanGate’s Nanspice™ using the Predictive Technology Model from Arizona State University.

A key feature of the new release is the Low Power Open Cell Library which contains always-on cells, isolation cells, level shifters and power-switches. All cell functions come in multiple drive strength variants. The Low Power Open Cell library contains the following cells types:

* Always-on cell: A special circuit located in a switched-off domain, and whose power supply is continuous even when the power supply for the remaining logic in the power domain is off.

* Isolation cell: A circuit used to isolate signals between two power domains where one is switched on and one is switched off. The most common usage of such cells is to isolate signals originating in a power domain that is being switched off, from the power domain that receives these signals and that remains switched on.

* Level-shifter cell: Logic to pass data signals between power domains operating at different voltages (or levels).

* Power-switch (header) cell: Logic used to connect and disconnect the power supply from the gates in a power domain.

These cells will allow the user to explore the low power features (e.g. power gating) in the leading P&R tools and to develop new methodologies through the use of sample designs that use these cells.

”The 45nm NanGate Open Cell Library has seen great success with its popularity. This release accomplishes enhancement requests for the library to be used in a wider range of design flows,” said George Kuo, Vice President of Marketing at NanGate. “Our main technology is in automation of library cell creation and concurrently optimization of the design.. It is our pleasure to develop and donate the non-manufacturing Open Cell library to Si2, and allows its members and the entire community to experiment flow development, circuit design and new algorithms using a NanGate library with all required views”.

“Si2 is delighted to be working with NanGate on the continued evolution of the Open45nm NanGate library. Through the leadership and library contributions by NanGate and excellent cooperation from North Carolina State University, this donation has filled the need for an advanced library to support research and evaluation of concepts and ideas in EDA”, said Dr. Sumit DasGupta, Senior Vice President, Engineering at Si2.

The library can be downloaded at; http://www.si2.org/?page=1417

For more information on this and other ongoing projects, be sure to attaend the 16th Si2 Conference on October 20 in Santa Clara, CA. See here for further details: http://www.si2.org/?page=1384
